7th Weigel Colloquium: Erhard Weigel (1625-1699) and his students
The 7th Weigel Colloquium is concerned with the mathematician Erhard Weigel (1625 - 1699) and his students. It takes place on December 5th and 6th, 2014, at the SUB Göttingen and is organised in collaboration with the Erhard-Weigel-Gesellschaft Jena.
Erhard Weigel (1625 - 1699) was a German mathematician, astronomer, educator and philosopher. In partucular, he is known to be the teacher of the young Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646 - 1716). Since 1999, scientists from all over the world attend to particular thematic issues of Weigel's life in several colloquia which take place frequently.
This year's Weigel Colloquium is concerned with some of his many students who attended lectures by Weigel. Among them there are some very important like Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, but also many who are quite unknown today though having filled esteemed positions during their time as priest, superintendent, mathematician, astronomer, teacher at a secondary school, professor at a university, etc., for example. The 7th Erhard Weigel Colloquium will come up to some of Weigel's students and ask for the flow of impact of his mathematical, physical, astronomical, calendariographical, educational, technical, philosophical, sciencetifically organisational and early Enlightenment ideas into the 18th century. For the first time, the Weigel students are analysed from the point of view of a "network".
